How your Intuition Shapes your Relationship with your Child
by Jennifer Crews Intuition = Listening + Decoding your own unique inner language.

We all speak more than one language. Some of us speak several verbal languages that allow us to travel the globe and interact with other cultures and environments. But have you ever traveled to a foreign country where you could not speak the language? It is quite easy to communicate with someone using other forms of communication: such as gestures, facial expressions, intonation, body language and sound effects.
These are all forms of nonverbal languages. There is another form of nonverbal language that is just beginning to receive more attention in our world: the language of intuition. Only we, as individuals, can define, interpret, decode and know how to use it. Intuition is an art form. The difficulty is we are not taught that intuition exists. We are not shown how to identify our inner language and how to master it. It is not a form of learning that can be taught through a single approach and be applicable to everyone: learning about your own inner language is a process that is unique to each and every one of us. It is taught through awareness, identification, resonance, exploration, acceptance and listening. These are the steps that create an atmosphere of opening an individual to themselves and knowing their inner language. AWARENESS - What is the form of your inner language?
How does your intuition speak to you? Remember, intuition is your inner language talking and speaking directly to you. There are no right answers. You have your own language that is unique to you.A close friend of mine is a successful singer and songwriter. A few months ago, she told me she frequently has songs of all genres appear in her head out of apparently nowhere. She will catch herself singing them out loud while driving or grocery shopping. She started to pay attention to each song and realized they were giving her messages. They related to whatever issue she was dealing with at that time in her life. The words that were coming out of her mouth were insights to guide her through her own personal issues with money, relationships, family and so on. This is her intuition. It is specific to her. Messages in the form of songs resonate deeply with her.
Another friend has recently discovered that her intuition is a series of short conversations between two people. She hears their conversations as if she were eaves dropping on a couple in a diner. The interaction between the two energies she senses provides her with guidance and insights into her own issues and life lessons. She has the ability now to connect with them – to drop in on their conversation – when she needs input or guidance. This is the form of her intuition.
My own inner language started as mini ‘movies’: short scenes I would see off to my right. They would repeat themselves as if the actors needed to do many takes of the same scene. The more I watched and observed these brief visual snippets, the more I started to recognize them as messages to me. My inner language uses visions filled with picture symbols and mini-action movies: I hear words and I have bodily sensations and emotions that are paired with bigger picture concepts shown to me through a variety of picture symbols. It took me years to listen to and understand these symbols and I ignored the picture-filled visions I would see. I also ignored the strong words I would hear out of thin air. Sometimes I even saw these words presented to me in written form hanging in the air. As my acceptance of these messages grew, I started to hear short phrases spoken to me. These phrases sometimes matched the visual mini movie I was seeing, and sometimes they were overlapping messages that had nothing to do with the scene. I have worked with and mastered the skill of immediately recognizing this as my inner language. Now I pay attention when it appears. At first I struggled with filtering these visions, trying to discern if they were about me or other people. I was doing readings on a regular basis and had to learn when the messages were sent for me and when they were intended for others. This required advanced practice on my part.Spend some time determining the form in which your inner language appears. Notice what comes to you as you are driving; notice what inner messages get your attention and in what form they appear; recognize and become aware when your inner language presents itself.IDENTIFICATION - What is the content of your inner language?
Symbols play a huge role in recognizing your inner language There have been countless books written on the interpretation of symbols over the centuries. Symbols in literature, in dreams, in religion and symbols of languages. In my experience I have found that regardless of the significance documented by others, the symbols that appear through your inner language are specific only to you and have their own message. Sometimes a symbol will correlate with the well-researched and documented meaning of a specific symbol; however, symbols mostly have their own resonance that is specific to you. I find this to be true when I do readings on people using cards. The symbols I am shown are paired with vocal messages telling me the client’s interpretation of each symbol; not what the symbols mean to me. I am told through voice what each symbol means for them and how it applies to the reading. My interpretation of the symbol means nothing. It is the vibration of the symbol and how it resonates with the individual that matters. The trick is tuning yourself into the vibration of whatever symbols are shown to you so you can identify what they mean to you. Any language is just a set of symbols that resonate with a particular vibration or meaning. Colors are a language - ask any interior decorator or artist. Numbers are a language; numerology is one of the oldest of languages. Astrology is a language; you experience this when you are sitting at a party surrounded by people that understand astrology and you have no idea what it means that you are a Virgo or Scorpio. We teach the language of picture symbols to our children when we are teaching them to identify farm animals, letters, numbers and colors. We even teach sound as a different language or symbol set. What sound does a cow or a pig make? Symbols in a tarot card deck have their own language. There are countless dream interpretation books to help us understand the language of our dreams. I learned while working in the Philippines that some languages among cultures are only spoken and a completely different language is used for written communication alone. Bicol is a spoken language in areas of the town Legaspi while this same culture writes in a different language known as Tagalog. Every alphabet across the planet is a symbol set and therefore its own language.ACTIVITY: Make a list of three symbols that you see frequently when you sense your inner language is communicating with you. Then list next to each symbol what it means to you.
Physical sensations, feelings, and emotions are also languages. They are different types of symbol sets that are communication through your physical body, which uses chemicals to get a message to you. More and more documentation is appearing in our culture demonstrating that emotions are the best barometer for what is going on inside and what your intuition is communicating to you. These are all important to note and recognize. For example, if you start to get a sick feeling in your stomach after talking to a certain friend on the phone, this is all pertinent information your intuition is conveying. This is the ‘content’ of your inner language communicating to you.
RESONANCE: What does it all mean?
Just by being aware of the form your intuition appears in and what is contained within that form is a beautiful step in knowing yourself and being able to apply that skill to knowing your child. Now it is time to look at how you resonate with all that is being shown to you. During one of my workshops we were discussing the energy of color and the symbolism behind different colors. Several members of the group felt that the color green signified healing and cleansing. One woman stood up and was very upset because she did not concur with the rest of the group. The color green to her when it appeared in her dreams or in her inner language represented depression and despair. We talked more to her about what associations she paired with the color green. It was uncovered that when she was in a miserable and abusive marriage she found herself decorating her home all in green. Interesting enough this was part of her subconscious need to be surrounded by healing energy. However, her misery at that time in her life was such that the emotion of depression overpowered this healing energy and green to her signified depression and despair. This is what is important. To her green symbolized depression. Now she knows the content of the symbol green for her she can identify and interpret this information when it appears as a message through her intuition. This is an important example of how no matter what the research over the years has indicated or what the majority of others associate with a specific symbol - all that matters is what it means to you. This is significant because each time that symbol appears she will know exactly what it means to her. Take some time and check in with how your body feels and resonates with different symbols that appear for you. If your intuitive form is music, are there different types of music that make you feel a certain way? This would be important information to access. This way when you hear a certain genre of music you will understand what it is trying to communicate with you. I have noticed with my visions that some will appear in color and others in black and white. I discovered that the resonance behind these differences was if it appeared in color it was emphasizing that the information was urgent and I should take immediate action. For example I received a vision in color at three in the morning of my cousin’s father -in- law crying while sitting on the stump of a tree. The next morning I called my cousin asking if he was alright. She was surprised by my question and then informed me that her mother -in- law had been admitted into the hospital the night before and the entire family was concerned. If the visions appeared in black and white then the information was just casual info that did not require immediate action. This refined attunement with your inner language is the “resonance” of your intuition. The true meaning behind each symbol, language, vision, sound and feeling all have a resonance that is specific to you. Discover this resonance inside of you.
Another vision I am shown frequently is a closet with many shelves. I have discovered this means it is time to look at different compartments of my world with each shelf representing a particular area of my life. I am shown items on each shelf that have their own meaning and are messages and insights to all areas of my life. I am then shown which objects to remove or switch from one shelf to another indicating the necessary changes I should be making in my life. Each object resonates with a different concept that has meaning only to me. Tap shoes are an example of such an object. Tap shoes symbolize my grandmother. She and I were both dancers as children and we spoke frequently about dancing when she was alive. Tap shoes to somebody else would most likely resonate with a different meaning. I learned to understand how each object was significant to me.
Your intuition is communicating with you daily. We doubt our intuition the most when two things happen: 1. We hear and are aware of our inner language but we cannot decipher how it is telling us something. We are unable to identify the form, content or resonance of the message.2. We hear and know how to decipher our inner language but we choose not to listen.EXPLORATION - Symbols unique to you
ACTIVITY: Using a deck of intuitive/angel cards lay out three cards next to each other. With a piece of paper, write down all the type of symbols you see in the cards. Do you see words? Pictures? Colors? Images? Next write down one example of each symbol type you see. Finally next to each symbol write down what it resonates in you. What do you feel and sense. What does it mean to you? Maybe it makes you think of another symbol. Just write down next to each symbol what it creates inside of you.

The resonance list is the meaning of the message for you. It is your deciphering of your inner language. This exercise is a great way to further explore your intuition as you connect with the cards and yourself.
ACCEPTANCE and LISTENING - Believe in Yourself
You are the expert: the expert on yourself and the expert on your child. This final step in the process of learning to know your inner language and master your intuition is the most critical. Trust what appears for you. Believe in yourself. Believe in the cards and what it brings up for you. In my experience I have seen that when we choose to not listen or accept our inner language the universe will teach us through more active, physical means. We will be presented with life situations or circumstances that will force us to listen. My friend knew deep down she was miserable in her job. She made excellent money; however, she found her world unfulfilling. She had volunteered to do some work overseas but kept putting off the start date for such an adventure. To leave now would mean quitting her job. What would she do about money or a job when she returned? Jamie stopped listening to her inner guidance so the universe gave her an answer using the physical world as its teacher. In one week, she was rear ended at a stop light and discovered the company where she worked was going bankrupt. The car accident was the universe forcefully pushing her forward and the loss of her job paved a path that matched her original intuition of needing to leave her job. Some may loose a job, others may develop an illness or disease, some may have certain challenges appear in their relationships, or our child’s intolerable behaviors may increase. These are all examples of the universe teaching us through physical means when we ignore our intuition. Through acceptance and listening we know what choices to make and what action steps are necessary to move forward for ourselves and our children.Discovering and getting to know your intuition is the most precious gift you can give to yourself and your child. As you grow more in knowing yourself then you can embrace and know the true essence of your child. Discover your inner language. Your intuition and insights into what your child needs will become clear. Believe in yourself and you will know your child’s essence, needs, and desires with ease and grace.
